"Speed is a skill — and every athlete can learn it."
Most field sport athletes operate well below their speed potential. Not because they lack ability — because nobody has taught them how to accelerate, decelerate, and change direction with proper mechanics.
After 15 years coaching sprint mechanics from the local to international level — and 5 years specifically coaching field athlete speed, acceleration, and agility — I built Speed Excellence to bring that precision to field sport athletes in Metro Vancouver. The methodology is the same. The application is sport-specific.
Field sport speed — the first step, the cut that beats a defender, the burst into open space — is technique. Technique is coachable. That is what every Speed Excellence session is built around.

What parents and athletes say after working with Speed Excellence.
My son has played soccer for six years. In eight sessions with Andrew, his first step changed completely. His coach noticed before I even said anything.

I didn't realize how much of speed was technique. Andrew explained it in a way that made sense to both of us. My daughter actually understands why she's doing each drill now.

What is the free speed assessment?+
The free assessment is a 20-minute session where Andrew watches your athlete run and move, identifies the specific mechanical issues limiting their speed, and explains exactly what a training program would address. No commitment required. Book at speedexcellence.com/assessment.
What sports does Speed Excellence work with?+
Soccer, rugby, lacrosse, field hockey, and football. The speed and agility mechanics trained are directly applicable to all field sports. Sessions are adapted to your athlete's specific sport and position.
What age range do you work with?+
Athletes aged 10–17. Sessions are structured differently for the 10–13 and 14–17 age groups to reflect different developmental priorities and training capacities.
How is this different from a speed camp?+
Speed camps serve 20–50 athletes at once. Individual technique correction at that scale is not possible. Speed Excellence delivers 1-on-1 and small group coaching with direct feedback on each athlete's specific mechanics every single session. The coaching quality is categorically different.
How quickly will my athlete see results?+
Most athletes show measurable improvements in acceleration mechanics within 4–6 sessions. Athletes aged 10–14 who are in the critical motor development window typically progress fastest. Meaningful game-applicable speed improvement is realistic within a 6–8 week program.
Where do sessions take place?+
Sessions take place at accessible field and track locations across Metro Vancouver. Location details are confirmed in your booking confirmation. Andrew works across Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, and North Vancouver areas.
Can I book sessions for multiple siblings?+
Yes. Contact Andrew directly to discuss scheduling. In some cases siblings can train together in a small group format, which reduces the per-session cost significantly.
